Swan Valley Golf, Australia
Combo Blog Jan 3rd & Jan 4th
Sunday (Jan 3rd) we had a wonderful lunch with Charlie & Genie at the Boatshed Restaurant on the Swan River overlooking the Perth skyline. While the temperature was scorching, there was a breeze (hot, but it moved the air!) and just being able to watch the small rented catamarans floating along the water, made us think it was cooler !
After lunch Tony and I headed to Swan Valley (Perth's equivalent of Napa Valley) to The Vines Resort. They had a stay and play deal so we thought we'd start the New Year out with a round of golf. Evening was low key - we watched Psycho and had a bottle of champagne.
Monday (Jan 4th) we played a round of golf on the Ellenbrook course. We didn't keep score so the pressure was off ! The highlight of the day was all of the kangaroo families that were resting under the trees along the fairways. We must have seen 40 - 50 of them ! One of them even had a little Joey and it leaped into Momma's pouch so only its feet were sticking out !
We both came home with a fine layer of sand on us because we both had quite a few bunker shots today ! But the bunkers were filled with that fine, white sand, not like most of the courses we play back in CA (hard packed sand), so a sand shot was a sand shot and you could get the ball out.
We had an enjoyable day.
Tomorrow (Jan 5th) we've got tickets to the Hyundai Hopman Cup XXII Tennis Tournament which we're both looking forward to. Actually, our 1st date was a tennis match 16.5 years ago (Aug 5, 1993) - we saw Pete Sampras vs. Michael Stich. We even had a star sighting that night.... Johnny Carson & his wife !
