Farewell South America... Hasta Luego Amigo!
Phew! What an exhausting trip ... I won't spend ages waffling on about how great it was or what the highlights were as they are innumerable (just navigate back through the entries to read up on the adventures).
To say the least, South America really blew my mind. Compared to the other classic "3rd world" backpacker routes I've been on (such as South East Asia and Central America), South America so consistently thrilled and surprised me on a regular basis that I have to put it down as the best continent I've visited so far.
I splurged quite a bit, but at least I managed to cover pretty much the whole continent (plus the outlying islands and even Easter Island) in a mere 3 1/2 months - albeit a little rushed at times. See? It can be done 
5-6 months would be ideal though.
I guarantee I will be back sometime in the future, whether it's using Argentina as a launchpad to visit the Antarctic or to take my gf on a cruise to the Galapagos.
I'm already counting down the days...
