Ketchikan - Crab Feast

Today we hopped on a bus @ 8am and headed to a bay about 20 minutes outside of the city of Ketchikan.  We then boarded a boat and took a leisurely ride to a small cove where the tour operator has several crab traps. 

These traps are for the shear purpose of educating people about crab trapping and the rules and regulations surrounding this industry.   Tony helped pull a trip and we had 3 female and 6 male crabs to discuss.  Males are the only crabs that go to market leaving all females to continue to reproduce.   At the end of each day the tour company releases the crabs back into the cove.

After everyone posed for photos holding a crab, we headed back to a lodge where we learned the art of cracking / eating a King Crab.  They started us with ½ a crab and each time a plate was empty, another ½ crab appeared.  Drawn butter was never empty and shells were piled high in the middle of the table.  It was a great meal and then we headed back to the ship.   B 1pm we departed Ketchikan and are heading to Victoria, BC.

Tonight's dinner included the wait staff doing a show for us - marching in the different courses, dancing in the isles, and parading the backed Alaska around the main dining room.  We (all diners) wore chef's hats during dinner which was fun.  Baked Brie, Lobster Bisque, Oxtail soup, salad, glazed lamb chops, shrimp and chicken in lemon crème sauce rounded out our dinner.

Tomorrow (7/31) is our last day .... We arrive into Victoria, BC around 5pm and depart @ 11pm so have just enough time to pop into town for a bite to eat then back on the ship.
