Laughingbird Caye, Belize
Today is Jennie's Birthday !
Up and out early today .... left the house at 7am to catch a boat to Laughingbird Caye National Park. The Ferny (and 18ft skiff with a bonnet for some protection from the sun. Ten (10 of us and 2 kiddies a skipper and wife who was our cook for lunch) headed out over very rough sea for 90 minutes of pounding through 3-4 ft swells (our backs and butts are killing us !).
We were the 1st boat to arrive so got the 1st pass at the snorkling, which was great. We saw a stingray with a 4.5 ft wing span and a lobster that everyone would die for (had to be a 3 pounder if he was an ounce !). Swam through schools of beautiful purple fish that looked like they had neon trim and saw a couple of huge barracuda. Kiddlin's played in the sand and splashed in the water and wore themselves out.
BBQ chicken with scallop potatoes and coleslaw was the fare (potatoes were made with mayo and cheeze whiz and pretty darned tasty !) and a 2nd snorkle trip for all but a few after lunch. The trip home was much smoother (we had a following sea so no slamming into swells and we made it back to the Placencia dock in record timel. We topped off the trip with a Ttty-Fruitty Gelato which hit the spot.
Tonight Grammy and Grampy are watching the little ones while the rest of the group go out to celebrate Jennie's birthday.
More to follow if I'm coherent enough to blog after the evening's festivities
